Starting its journey on November 3, 2008 under the founder Chairman, Professor Khondkar Siddique-e Rabbani, this department aims high to make itself one of the centerpieces in the area of Biomedical Physics, Engineering and Technology. This post graduate multidisciplinary department emphasizes research and development aimed at delivering the benefits of modern healthcare technologies to the deprived people globally, particularly in Bangladesh. Aiming for relevant and target oriented research, this department initially started with PhD and MPhil programmes. The Department also offers Master of Science programme with two specializations: (i) Biomedical Engineering and (ii) Medical Physics. The mission of the department is to create manpower for developing health care technology, to understand, install and operate sophisticated biomedical equipment in hospitals and to assist medical doctors in diagnosing diseases and preparing treatment plans. This department emphasis research in the fields: (i) A novel Focused Impedance Method (FIM) for the diagnosis of disorders and disease of lungs, stomach and certain cancers (ii) A new neuro physiological parameter named Distribution of F-latency (DFL), having potential in the detection and diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy (iii) Destruction of diarrhoeal germs in water at low cost (iv) Biomedical signal and image analysis for medical applications (v) Telemedicine.
