Department of Zoology

The Department of Zoology was established in 1954. This Department offers B.S. (Honours), M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programs; Post-Doctoral program is also offered.The post graduate students study in different specialized branches like Fisheries, Entomology, Wildlife Biology, Parasitology, and Genetics & Molecular Biology as major courses in the M.S. program. The department accommodates some specialized laboratories in the respective branches.The Department has research collaborations with various national and international organizations in the fields of advanced zoology and nature conservation. At present, 29 regular teachers are conducting lectures and research in different fields.

The Department houses the offices of “the Zoological Society of Bangladesh”, “Dhaka University Zoology Alumni Association” and “The Department of Zoology Nature’s club”.The Society regularly publishes a scientific journal named “Bangladesh Journal of Zoology”. A seminar library, “Prof. Yousufzai Seminar Library,” has a large collection of books, scientific journals and theses. Thera is a separate computer laboratory with modern ICT and internet facilities for the students. The department has an “Animal Specimen Museum” containing various preserved animals. The department has its own zoological garden in the premises of Curzon Hall Campus where different animals are reared for advanced research.
