M. A. Kawser is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Dhaka. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History at the University of Dhaka and joined the department as a Lecturer in 2003. He later obtained an MPhil in Higher Education from the University of Oslo, Norway, with research on curriculum development and faculty engagement in higher education. His PhD research explored sanitation, health, and identity formation in colonial eastern Bengal (1905–1911). His current scholarly interests include the history of medicine, education, and the environment in colonial Bengal and Bangladesh.

Prof. Kawser has presented several research papers at home and abroad. The most recent of these was on “Education in Medieval Bengal: An Account of Two Systems” presented at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. He also participated in workshops and seminars at the Japan Institute for Higher Education Evaluation (JIHEE), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan.

He has become acquainted with the European higher education system through extensive visits to universities across continental Europe. He attended seminars and workshops held by the European Center for Strategic Management of Universities (ESMU), European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), European Student Union (ESU), European University Association (EUA), Directorate General of Education and Culture, European Commission, and European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR) in Brussels, Belgium. His recent book, titled Curriculum Development in Higher Education: The Role of Faculty Members, was published with significant assistance from this experience.

Professor Kawser has published 4 books and 20 articles in nationally and internationally renowned journals. He is currently serving as the Associate Editor of the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh Humanities and as the Editor of Bangladesh Itihas Samiti Patrika.
