Dr. Shafiul Alam is working as a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Dhaka. He obtained his PhD from the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield, UK in 2007 under Commonwealth Fellowship scheme. He completed B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc degrees in Applied Physics and Electronics from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. His research interests include Robotics and Control Engineering, Intelligent Control of Robotic Arms and Unmanned Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Evolutionary Algorithms, Biomedical Engineering and Systems Biology, Embedded Systems. He has published peer-reviewed research articles in international journals and conference proceedings in the areas of his research.
Dr. Alam worked as a post-doctoral researcher in University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK and in Anglia Ruskin University, UK under Commonwealth Fellowship Program. He also worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Bradford University, UK under Erasmus Mundus fellowship program. Dr. Alam worked as a visiting Professor in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University of Science (USM), Malaysia.
Dr. Alam led a project on, “Building Fab Lab at University of Dhaka for Innovation and Invention”, funded by Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), University Grants Commission (UGC), and Ministry of Education Bangladesh and set up a Fab Lab at Dhaka University in 2017. Fab Lab DU offers a world class environment with state-of-the-art digital fabrication machines such as 3D printers, CNC milling machine, laser cutter, vinyl cutters to provide a technical prototyping platform for innovation, invention, and entrepreneurship.
