Shahrima Tanjin Arni completed her LLB and LLM in International Law from the University of Dhaka. Later, she pursued her LLM in International Law at the University of Cambridge as a Commonwealth-Cambridge Trust Scholar. She was also an honorary Professor Sir David Williams Law Scholar at Wolfson College, Cambridge and recipient of Barrister Nora Sharif Gold Medal 2019 awarded by the University of Dhaka.

In 2019, she was elected as the first ever International Affairs Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU). As a student representative, she pushed the agenda of providing official email address to all students at University of Dhaka, which was later implemented by the university authority. She was also a Co-Founder and later the Editor-in-Chief of Dhaka University Law and Politics Review (DULPR).

Before coming to Cambridge, she worked as an Analyst at the Centre for Research and Information (CRI) and coordinated the quarterly policy magazine "WhiteBoard". She was also Co-Lead of Research Wing at A.S & Associates, a top-tire corporate law firm in Bangladesh. Previously, she has also worked as a Research Associate at A.S & Associates and advised several MNCs, INGOs etc. She also advised IFC-World Bank on draft of the Secured Transaction (Movable Property) Act 2023 and ammendment of the Bankruptcy Act 1997.

Besides academic studies, at Cambridge, she was a Conference Co-convener of the Cambridge International Law Journal (CILJ). Her modules at Cambridge included International Investment Law, International Intellectual Property Law, European Union (EU) Trade & Digital Law and the Law of WTO and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Her modules in University of Dhaka also included Energy Law and Policy, International Environemntal Law, Fiscal Law, Business Law, Law of Transfer of Property, Land Law, Contract Law etc.

Arni’s core research interest includes international investment law, international and European Union trade law, insolvency law. She recently worked on the study titled ‘Evaluating the Feasibility and drafting a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) between the European Union and Bangladesh for Promotion, Protection and Regulation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)’ initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES).

Apart from the love for law and politics, Arni is an ardent admirer of Nazrul Giti and Persian poetry. In her free time, she manages a Bangladeshi rock band Coleslaw and loves jamming with her friends.
