Delwar Hossain, PhD embarked upon his research career in 1994 at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), the leading public think-tank in Bangladesh in the areas of strategic and global studies . He subsequently joined as a Lecturer at the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1995. Dr Delwar is currently serving as senior Professor at the same Department. He is formerly the Chair of the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka (2009-2012), the founder Director of the East Asia Center (2014-2023) and the Director of Centre for Genocide Studies (2015-2016), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Professor Delwar served as Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission (2022-2024).

Professor Delwar finished his undergraduate and grade programs in International Relations from the University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He did his second Master’s degree in Asia Pacific International Relations from International University of Japan (IUJ), Niigata, Japan as Asian Development Bank (ADB) Scholar. He earned his PhD in global and intercultural studies from Ferris University in Yokohama, Japan as a Monbukagakushi scholar.

Dr Delwar delivered lectures as a Visiting Professor to the Yamaguchi University, Yamaguchi, Japan during 2017-2024. He received Dean’s Award from International University of Japan during his study in Master’s program. He also received fellowships from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), the Ford Foundation, and the Japan Foundation. He has successfully conducted research projects supported by national and international agencies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), UNDP, CIDA, KAS, Japan Foundation and the Ford Foundation. Professor Delwar is the founder Editor of Journal of Bangladesh and Global Affairs, published by the KRF Center for Bangladesh and Global Affairs (CBGA), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is a member of editorial boards of several reputed journals from Bangladesh and abroad.

Professor Delwar has published more than seventy journal articles, book chapters, working papers and books to his credit. Professor Delwar’s teaching and research interests include: inter-state relations, diplomacy, globalization and development, great power politics, international cooperation, security and strategic analysis, peace and conflict affairs, maritime affairs, and regional affairs with special focus on India and China, the Bay of Bengal, South Asia, East Asia and Japan.
