Research Interest
| Subject | Description | Research Interest (Goal, Target Indicator) |
|---|---|---|
| Economic Anthropology; Anthropology of Political Economy; Anthropology of Work; Anthropology of Labour | My research interest revolves around changes in work and labour patterns in the garment industry in Bangladesh. I seek to understand and write about conceptions of labour, money, autonomy, kinship, solidarity, discipline, etc. within broader framework of capitalism, value and work. I think, in understanding different concepts of capitalism, labour or work in places as Bangladesh and South Asia we must not take for granted their Euro-American connotations or as universal categories. | |
| Egalitarianism | Egalitarianism is the idea of becoming free from any sort of structure towards equality and equity. It is not that human could break free from all the socio-economic, cultural, religious or political institutions, structure and practices at ones rather I believe, ‘strive towards change’ is the essence of Egalitarianism. My work is on changes in work and labour pattern and the potential of Egalitarianism and change. | |
| Social Marginalization and the Production of Inequalities | In the milieu of the global development and state' formation of Bangladesh, the ethnic minority people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) are in a situation of economic transition and marginalization. My research interest is to explore the ways Bangladesh state's persistence to build Bangalee and Bangladeshi nation and its commitment to develop the country socio-economically (formulated and funded by the international development agencies) has led the state's encroachment of the CHT which were beyond direct state control for most of its history. During my ethnographic fieldwork in Rangamati and Bandarban of CHT, I found that with the expansion of the state space there has been a mutation of citizenship for the ethnic minority groups, where their rights and access to land and forests are being limited (and sometimes denied) through government actions and policies. |
