Neuroscience | Molecular mechanism of KCNQ2 underlying neuronal excitability | |
Proteomics | Proteomic approach to detect phosphoprotein in different signaling pathway. Protein phosphorylation mediates intracellular signal transduction in various cellular processes that is a key post-translational modification. It contributes to the regulation of neuronal signaling and control processes underlying synaptic plasticity and cognitive functions. Emotions such as pleasure, displeasure and fear are controlled by monoaminergic neurons in brain. Monoamine neurotransmitters are dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin which control emotions by their combined actions of so many kinases, phosphatases and their phosphosubstrates. Loss of fine tuning among those may lead to neuropsychiatric diseases such as suicide, anxiety, schizophrenia, mania, autism, alzheimer’sdisease, parkinson disease and depression. This project will focus on the association between neurotransmitter and various kinase and to reveal the different protein substrate phosphorylated by specific kinase by using phosphoproteomics approach. |
