Multivariate Multiscale Entropy (MMSE) and Dynamical Complexity of Multichannel Data | During my PhD, I had introduced a method (multivariate multiscale entropy) which was capable of quantifying the degree of complexity present in apparently random fluctuations of signals coming from real world systems. The method allowed us to gain insight into the complexity of the underlying multivariate signal generating system. This had also made it possible, for instance, to distinguish between the unconstrained (healthy) and various constrained (pathological) states of an organism, based on the analysis of non-invasive physiological recordings. The method was capable of addressing for the first time the complexity of multivariate data directly in the domain where they reside. The scope and range of potential applications of that work were enormous, from the analysis of stress related illnesses in modern mankind, to cognitive load assessment and gait analysis in the elderly. |
