Tamanna Howlader received the B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc degrees in Applied Statistics from the Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Canada. During her Ph.D., Tamanna received several prestigious awards including the Concordia University Graduate Fellowship, Mathematics and Statistics Graduate Fellowship, Stanley G. French Graduate Scholarship and Hydro Quebec Award. She joined ISRT as a Lecturer in 2001 and is currently serving as a Professor. Tamanna is interested in interdisciplinary research and has published articles demonstrating novel statistical applications in the areas of statistical image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition and public health. She has a strong record of research that includes contributions to high-impact journals of several prestigious publishers including the IEEE, Elsevier, Springer Nature and Taylor and Francis. In 2015, she was awarded the Late Sydney R. Parker Best Paper Award from the Journal of Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing (CSSP), Springer. Tamanna has also published book chapters, articles in proceedings of international conferences and a book titled 'Orthogonal Image Moments for Human-Centric Visual Pattern Recognition' published by Springer Nature. She has delivered technical talks in several international conferences. In 2014, her paper received the Young Statisticians Award at the 2014 ISI Regional Statistics Conference, Malaysia. In addition, she has received travel awards from the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the American Statistical Association and was selected as the ISI Young Ambassador to the International Biometric Society. Tamanna has also served as a member of the Young Statisticians Committee of the ISI and member of the Scientific Program Committee for the prestigious World Statistics Congress 2019. In addition to organizing sessions at international conferences she has also reviewed articles for several statistical journals.
