Sudip Chakroborthy is the Associate Professor of the Theatre and Performance Studies Department.

Sudip Chakroborthy is both an author and a theatre-maker. He is trained in South Asian traditional performance culture, both as a performer and a director. He has been actively involved with numerous theatre creations, workshops, seminars, conferences and festivals. His theatre direction, designs and lectures have been performed on the international stages in Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, South Korea, Iran, France, England, Scotland, Wales, US and Canada.

Sudip Chakroborthy is a regular speaker at international conferences and seminars. Recent contributions include ‘Nationalism and the Possibilities of Plural Identities in Bangladeshi Performance’ at 'Conversation Circle' in the Being Human Festival at Goldsmiths, University of London (2020), Engaging with Dissonance in Performance Research at TaPRA-SCUDD at Oxford University (2019), 'In Search of ‘Philosophy’ and ‘Identity’ in Contemporary Theatre: Global and Bangladesh Experience' at Tehran University (2018), 'Memory and Identity: How Memories are Shaping in British-Bangladeshi Identities' at Queen Mary, University of London (2018). He has published in the Shilpakala Academy Journal, Bangla Academy Journal, Asiatic Society Bangladesh and Politics and Administration Journal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Sylhet and Poetry Out Loud (POL) UK. He has co-authored a book named Traditional Games of Bangladesh published by UNESCO.

His reputation as a director is well recognized with credits such as SwarnaBoal (Dhaka, 2023), Sector12 (Birmingham, 2018) Brick Lane 78 (Birmingham, 2018), MEMORi (Glasgow, 2016), Dokkhina Sundari (Dhaka, 2014), Chaka (Dhaka University, 2013), Macbeth (Dhaka, 2013), JyotiSanghita (Habiganj, 2012), LalJomin (Dhaka, 2011), Mohajoner Nao (Dhaka, 2010), and Phona (Barisal, 2009).

The plays he has directed and designed have been performed at international theatre seasons and festivals that include ‘BHASHA’ Glasgow Language Festival (2019), MAC Birmingham (2018), 'Theatre Olympics' in India (2018), Diaspora Theatre Season Toronto (2018), 'Season of Bangla Drama' London (2018 and 2014), 'Tin Forest International Theatre Festival’ as part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games cultural programme (2014), 'Contacting the World' at Contact Manchester (2014), 'Ganga-Jamuna Festival' in Dhaka and Kolkata (2014), 'ShedLink Festival' (2014) and 'Seasons of Conflict' (2011) at Chickenshed London, 'Prio Bangla' at Washington DC (2013), 'Keochang Theatre Festival' South Korea (2011).

He has facilitated theatre workshops in Bangladesh, India, UK and the US.
