Tourism, Gender and Development | My PhD thesis is on "Exploring the Ethical Political Ecology of Tourism in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), Bangladesh: Engaging with Indigenous and Gender Concerns". My interest further expands on the power dynamics that can influence the uneven distribution of development, accumulation by dispossession, and the illegal extraction of resources. I am also keen to explore women's participation in agriculture, nutrition, and empowerment from gender perspectives. |
Gender-based violence | I am keen to understand and explore the different types of gender-based violence, how the socio-economic and political factors influence the gender-based discriminations, and how the gendered power relations facilitate the inequality and injustice through violence. My M.Phil is on reintegration of women trafficked survivors; thus, I take a deeper interest in trafficking in women, the reintegration process, the social stigma associated with reintegration, psycho-social aspects of the survivors and the global concern for the violation of human rights. I have also been working on domestic violence, sexual harassment at workplace, sexual violence induced by ethnic conflict. | |
Indigenous rights | Due to my entanglements with Indigenous peoples and rights during my PhD, I want to enrich my knowledge on Indigenous geography, and the challenges invovled with Indigenous people's rights, culture, and identity. |
Ethical Political Ecology | I have developed a framework on ethical political ecology, which I want to apply in future research. |
