Dr. Firdausi Qadri, an international scientist at the Centre for Vaccine Sciences in International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), has been working in collaboration with international and national organizations on research related to infectious diseases and vaccine development over the last 25 years. She and her team devote their time in conducting research on diarrheal pathogens, such as Vibrio cholerae and enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) so that vaccines can be formulated to save the lives of children suffering from diarrheal diseases. Emphasis has also been placed on understanding the immune response in H.pylori-infected people in Bangladesh and patient responses to typhoid fever and vaccines. Intensive research has been carried out in the field of enteric diseases, specifically in the areas of immunology, genomics, proteomic technology and diagnostics, and vaccine development. There is an active quest to understand the immunological responses in natural infections as well as in vaccines to better discern factors that need to be improved in current and future formulations. On 28 November 2014, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed Dr. Firdausi Qadri and nine members to a high-level advisory panel on the proposed UN Technology Bank aimed at helping the world’s least developed countries overcome poverty. Dr. Qadri is a founding member and Chairman of ideSHi.
