Professor Muhammad Abdul Hai is remembered as one of the foremost figures in South Asian linguistics. A pioneer in the study of language and culture, he made invaluable contributions to the research of Bengali language and literature, laying a foundational framework for the continued exploration of linguistics in the region.The Department of Linguistics, University of Dhaka, has dedicated a special issue of the Dhaka University Journal of Linguistics to commemorate the birth centenary of Professor Muhammad Abdul Hai. This issue also includes several papers presented at the Birth Centenary Seminar held on 9 June 2022, organised by the Department of Linguistics with the support of Professor Hai’s family.The commemorative volume features contributions that illuminate various aspects of Professor Hai’s work, ranging from theoretical linguistics to cultural studies, and from research methodology to his distinguished academic career.
