The main purpose of the University was to create new areas of knowledge and disseminate such knowledge nationally as well as globally. Since its inception, the University of Dhaka has a distinct character of having distinguished scholars as faculties who have enriched the global pool of knowledge by making notable contributions in the fields of teaching and research.
PhD Admission Requirements:
(a) The candidate must possess M.Phil. degree of this university or of a recognized university.
(b) 4 years Bachelor's degree and 1(one) year Master’s Degree.
(c) In all examinations 2nd Division/Class (minimum 50% marks) or C.G.P.A 3.50 out of 5.00 and 3.00 out of 4.00.
(d) Candidates should have 3 (three) years Bachelor's with 1 (one) year Master’s Degree for admission in PhD. Programme
Rules for Enrolment
(a) Fill up the prescribed form of the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of Bangladesh (www.shed.gov.bd)
(b) Submit your prescribed form or application according to the following guideline: Three copies of application form are to be submitted to the Ministry of Education (those applying for Medicine should submit it to the Ministry of Health), Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, through the Bangladesh diplomatic representative in the country of the candidate’s domicile or the diplomatic representative of the candidate’s country in Bangladesh. If the proposed admission is in pursuance of an agreement between the Government of Bangladesh and the Government of applicant’s country of domicile, the application has to be routed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country. All certificates and transcripts need to be notarized by an authorized official of the Foreign Ministry of the candidate’s own country without which no application will be entertained.
(c) On receipt of the application from the Bangladesh Ministry of Education, the Equivalence Committee of the concerned Faculty of the University of Dhaka will assess the eligibility of the student for admission in the desired programme. If the student is found eligible for the programme, the application will be sent to the Academic Committee of the concerned Department/Institute for their opinion. Finally, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University will approve the admission. This decision will be forwarded to the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education will issue a no-objection certificate to the concerned applicant in favour of his/her admission. Thereafter, the applicant will be allowed to get admitted by paying fees and other charges. On completion of all government formalities, the application should reach the Office of the Registrar, University of Dhaka by 31 December (of the year of applying).
(d) After equivalence by the concerned Department, Dean, and Central Equivalence Committee, a permission letter for admission will be issued to you by the University authority.
(e) Admission Fees: For SAARC countries only USD 500 or equivalent amount in BDT. Non-SAARC Country only USD 1200 or equivalent amount in BDT. All fees to be deposited to Sonali Bank Ltd, “Foreign Student Fees DU,” Account No: 4405703000044.
Academic Session:
Graduate Programme: January to December. Post-Graduation Programme: January to December. M.Phil. Programme: Applications are generally invited in October-November every year
Duration of Academic Programmes:
(a) Graduate Programme: 4 (four) years.
(b) Post-Graduate Programme: 1 (one) year.
(c) MPhil Programme: 2 (two) years.
(d) PhD Programme: 3 (three) years.
(e) DBA Programme: 4 (four) years
In special cases, the University authority may allow admission of the applicant, subject to the approval of the concerned regulatory authorities, within 2 months of approval. After 2 months, if the candidate fails to notify, the admission approval will be considered cancelled.
