The International Centre for Ocean Governance (ICOG) at the University of Dhaka organized a prestigious event, the ICOG Scholarship Giving Ceremony, to recognize and reward exceptional students in the field of oceanography. The ceremony took place on 18 June 2023 at 2.30 PM in Room No: 308 at the Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka.
The ceremony centered around a thought-provoking discussion titled "The Role of Ocean Sciences for the Development of Blue Economy in Bangladesh." Esteemed speaker Dr. Tonia Astrid CAPUANO delivered a captivating presentation on the subject, shedding light on the vital connection between ocean sciences and the growth of the blue economy in Bangladesh.
Dr. CAPUANO, known for her extensive expertise in oceanography, shared valuable insights on the significant contributions that ocean sciences can make to the development of the blue economy. Her presentation highlighted the potential opportunities and challenges faced by Bangladesh in harnessing the vast resources and potential of its marine ecosystem.
The event was attended by a diverse audience comprising students, faculty members, researchers, and professionals interested in the field of oceanography. It served as an invaluable platform for fostering discussions and generating awareness about the importance of ocean sciences for sustainable economic growth and environmental conservation.
One of the key highlights of the ICOG Scholarship Giving Ceremony was the announcement of scholarships awarded to outstanding students. A total of seven students were recognized for their exceptional academic achievements and dedication to the field. Among them were five students from the Department of Oceanography at the University of Dhaka. In addition, two students from other universities were also honored with scholarships, showcasing the inclusive nature of the event and ICOG's commitment to supporting talent across the nation.
