On December 18, 2019, the Department of Oceanography at the University of Dhaka took the lead in organizing an enlightening international seminar. The seminar focused on exploring the intricate impacts of the Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) on the Indian Ocean's regular physical characteristics. This significant dialogue took place at the prestigious Professor M.A. Latif Auditorium, located within the Geology Department of the university.
Dr. Bradford S. Barrett, an Associate Professor from the Department of Oceanography of the U.S. Naval Academy, captured the audience's attention with his incisive keynote on the MJO. Dr. Barrett offered an exhaustive exploration of this climatic phenomenon, elucidating its myriad nuances and broader ramifications in the marine domain. His presentation provided the attendees with a comprehensive understanding, emphasizing the MJO's profound global impacts.
Presiding over the symposium was Mr. Md. Jobaer Alam, Chairman of the Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka. The event also benefitted from the esteemed presence of Professor Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal, the Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Dhaka, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The Director of the ICOG at the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Md. Kawser Ahmed, further enriched the discourse with his reflections as a special guest.
