A high-profile 11-member delegation from Peking University, led by Professor NING Qi, Vice President of Peking University and Professor at the School of Foreign Languages, visited the University of Dhaka (DU) on 11 August 2025 at the invitation of DU’s Office of International Affairs.
The delegation also included Professor LI Shujing, Chair of the Council of the School of Foreign Languages; Professor WU Jiewei, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages; Professor WANG Hao; Associate Professor WANG Xu; Associate Professor ZHANG Xing; Associate Professor SHI Yue; Lecturer ZHANG Yabing; Dr MA Yuchen, Postdoctoral Fellow, CEN Siyi, MA student & JIN Yunhao, undergraduate student.
At 9:30 am, the delegation visited the Confucius Institute at DU and paid a courtesy call to the Centre for China Studies. They held a discussion with Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, Country Director of the Centre for China Studies. Dr Yang Hui, Director of the Confucius Institute Michael Zhu, Deputy Director, CCS & Nabila Tabassum, Programme Officer, CCS were also present.
At 10:00 am, the delegation led a seminar at the VC Office Virtual Classroom. The event was organized by the office of Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), DU, and moderated by Professor Shamsad Mortuza. Special guests included Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), DU; Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer, DU; Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, Acting Registrar, DU; Deans from different institutes and faculty members from various departments.
Following remarks by Madam Vice President NING Qi, Associate Professor WANG Xu delivered a talk on “People-Centered Economic Development on National Security: Experience of China for Bangladesh.” The second speaker, Professor WU Jiewei, presented on “Labor Advantages of Bangladesh and ASEAN: Cooperation and Competition.”
The Q&A session was lively and engaging, with distinguished DU faculty members raising valuable questions, and Peking University scholars providing insightful responses.
At 11:15 am, after the seminar, a high-level meeting took place between the top leadership of DU and the Peking University delegation, during which DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan engaged in a fruitful discussion with the visitors.
