Research Areas

HYDROMETEOROLOGY

Hydrometeorology has profound importance in the context of Bangladesh’s climate pattern. Most of the  natural disasters in Bangladesh; namely – flood, cyclones, thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorm; are  hydrometeorological in nature. Therefore, Department of Meteorology regularly conducts researches to  understand several aspects of hydrometeorology in Bangladesh; and apply them for further needs.

AGROMETEOROLOGY

Bangladesh is an agrarian country, and weather has direct influence on agriculture. So, agrometeorology  has become a very important area of further researches for the department. Department of  Meteorology has several ongoing researches that are mostly related with agrometeorology and  Bangladesh’s agriculture.

TROPICAL METEOROLOGY

Bangladesh is located within the tropical region. So, the pattern and nature of weather and climate of  Bangladesh has great influence on the geographical location, i.e. tropical region. Therefore, the  department conducts regular researches to understand the aspects of tropical meteorology and its  influence on the weather and climate of Bangladesh.

NUMERICAL WEATHER PREDICITION SYSTEM

Prediction of weather systems has been the motto of meteorology, since its evolution. So, it is evident  that most of the researches in this department have a common objective – to predict or forecast the  situations leading into any meteorological event or phenomena. Betterment of existing systems are also  a main theme of most researches at the Department of Meteorology.

RADAR & SATELLITE METEOROLOGY

The idea of this course is to introduce the learners to the use and application of radar and satellite into the study of meteorology. This course has been designed so that the learners will be able to understand the basic principles of using radar and satellite technologies, and also the use of these technologies into the understanding of meteorology.

CLIMATOLOGY & CLIMATE SCIENCE

The study of climate has profound importance to the study of meteorology. Therefore, the course is designed in such a way that the learners will be able to understanding the fundamental concepts of climate science and relate that understanding into the practical fields as well.

AVIATION METEOROLOGY

Meteorology has vast potential and enormous scopes. One of the promising sectors  of meteorology is the aviation sector. Huge amount of data and information regarding the weather are necessary for the aviation sector. Therefore, the course – Aviation Meteorology – has been designed such a way that the learners should be able to understand all the necessary concepts for this subject and also be able to apply their knowledge in real world situations.
