The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka, organized the Dean’s Award Ceremony 2025 on Thursday, 28 August 2025, at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. The event celebrated academic excellence by awarding both students and teachers for their outstanding contributions in education and research.
This year, a total of 57 students from four departments of the faculty - Geography and Environment, Geology, Oceanography, and Disaster Science & Climate Resilience - received the prestigious Dean’s Award for their academic achievements. Additionally, eight faculty members were honored across four categories for their remarkable contributions to research and scholarship.
The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, attended as the Chief Guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, and Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury graced the ceremony as Special Guests. Emeritus Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam of the Department of Geography and Environment attended as the Honored Guest, while Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Geography and Environment, delivered the vote of thanks. Guardians of award-winning students were also present, making the event even more memorable.
The Department of Meteorology takes immense pride in announcing the achievements of two of its respected faculty members who were recognized at the ceremony:
Md. Momin Islam, Assistant Professor, received the prestigious Dean’s Award (2021, 2022 & 2023) in the Lecturer Category for Excellence in Research, along with recognition for publishing in an internationally reputed Q1 journal.
Aishia Fyruz Aishi, Lecturer, was honored for her outstanding research publication in an internationally reputed Q1 journal.
These accomplishments bring immense pride not only to the Department of Meteorology but also to the entire Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, serving as an inspiration to students and colleagues to pursue even greater excellence in research and academia.
