On September 6, 2026, the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka launched its fall‑semester series of Chinese culture courses. Five courses — Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Guzheng instrument, Chinese Characters and Martial Arts — opened to students. Teachers and students embarked on a journey of Chinese cultural learning through hands‑on practice.
In the calligraphy class, under the guidance of a Chinese teacher, twenty students learned basic writing skills. They got to appreciate the artistic charm of Chinese calligraphy through actual writing practice.
The Chinese painting class, taught by a local invited teacher, had ten participants. Students learned brush‑and‑ink techniques and composition, and experienced the unique appeal of traditional Chinese painting by trying out brushwork on rice paper.
Fourteen students joined the guzheng class. The Chinese instructor introduced the instrument’s history and fundamental playing skills. Students felt the beauty of traditional Chinese music by playing the guzheng instrument themselves.
Forty‑four students attended the Chinese character course. The Chinese teacher talked about the origins, formation rules and evolution of Chinese characters. Interactive learning helped students grasp the history and cultural meanings behind Chinese characters.
The martial arts class, jointly run with the university’s Chinese Language and Culture Club, supported by the university Wushu Club, drew 51 students. Learners practiced basic postures and beginner routines in a lively atmosphere.
These five diverse courses bring Chinese culture vividly to local teachers and students. The opening marks the full start of the institute’s cultural programs for this semester. Going forward, the Confucius Institute will offer more varied courses and events. It aims to create more opportunities for local youth to know and experience Chinese culture, and boost exchanges between young people from China and Bangladesh.
