The department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is one of the pioneering departments in research and education under the Faculty of Biological Sciences. The department has come a long way since its inception in 1957. Currently, we offer undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs in Biochemistry with a clear mission to develop transferrable knowledge and skills in the students. Our department has always been dedicated to maintain a research environment for better learning, creative thinking, innovation, and leadership. The diverse research areas that are being currently focused on here are plant molecular biology, plant biotechnology, cellular immunology and environmental toxicology, molecular cancer genetics, nutrition and health science, population genetics, non-communicable diseases, neuroscience, microbial biotechnology, clinical biochemistry and biochemistry of natural products. The scope of this subject is not limited to these fields only. Our alumni have been performing excellently in their respective fields worldwide, which once again reflects the extraordinary quality of our education system.
