The importance of soil, water and environment sciences cannot be overemphasized. Given the fact that the world population is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, the importance of these sciences is greater than ever before. While we are celebrating the Mujib Borsho, the birth centenary of the architect of independent Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, we are reiterating our commitment to the nation, the commitment of helping the nation to be self-sustaining in food production, to mitigate its environmental problems stemming from natural and anthropogenic sources, and to produce world-class graduates who will take leadership in different capacities and take the country forward.
