I, Abu Hena Muhammad Yousuf, am working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oceanography under Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. I have been teaching Law of the Sea, Marine Spatial Planning and Bio-Physical Oceanography over there from 2013 till to date. I have also been working as a Student Advisor in my Department from the very beginning of the starting of my job over here. Furthermore, I was also a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Bio-Physical Oceanography at Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, India funded by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is a UNESCO program, Italy. In NIO, the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) introduced to a vastness of Oceanography and offered a wide range of subjects of biological, chemical, physical and geological oceanography. There my core research title was ‘Spatio-Temporal Formation of Water Mass in the Bay of Bengal (BOB) and its Spreading Mechanism’. I have also worked as a Research Assistant (Research & Development) in the Institute of Food and Science Technology (IFST) at Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) from January 2004 to August 2005, which solely focuses on industrial research. Owing to my distinguished academic records and performances, I have achieved very competitive Bangabandhu Fellowship, 2018 from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh Government.
I did the Ph.D. at International Centre for Ocean Governance (ICOG) under School of Law at Western Sydney University, Australia. My research work is entitled as "Ecosystem-based Marine Spatial Planning for Ocean Governance in the Bay of Bengal for Sustainable Blue Economy". My research focused on the contribution to the ecologically sustainable conservation of marine resources, for the development of a proactive Ecosystem-Based Marine Spatial Planning (EB-MSP) approach along with a proper implementation framework for Sustainable Ocean Governance (SOG) to enhance Blue Economy in Bay of Bengal specially in Bangladesh. The major focus of this thesis is to provide environmental data analysis along with legal and policy frameworks for SOG development process in the Baltic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and Great Barrier Reef – Marine Park (GBRMP) through the integration of Ecosystem-Based Management (EBM) with Marine Spatial Planning (MSP).
