Mr. Jillur Rahman is a Lecturer in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka. Before joining the University of Dhaka, he served at Jagannath University, first as a Lecturer and subsequently as an Assistant Professor of Economics.
Mr. Rahman has more than a decade of experience in applied economic and development research, specialising in social protection, international trade, labour markets and development policy. He has contributed to major studies assessing the implications of Bangladesh’s graduation from least-developed-country status, with particular emphasis on export competitiveness, preference erosion, sectoral adjustment and appropriate policy responses.
His research is primarily quantitative, drawing on statistical and econometric analysis of large primary and secondary datasets. He also has extensive experience in designing and analysing household- and firm-level surveys, complemented where appropriate by key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
Mr. Rahman has worked on research and technical assistance assignments commissioned by organisations including ADB, FCDO, IGC, ILO, IOM, UNDP and UNICEF. His recent work includes the Final Review of Bangladesh’s National Social Security Strategy and Action Plan and ADB’s Strengthening Social Resilience Programme. He has also served as Co-Principal Investigator on IGC-supported studies examining direct taxation and inequality, and the price elasticities and mark-ups of Bangladesh’s apparel exports to Europe.
He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Dhaka.
