On behalf of all our faculty, staff and students, welcome to the Department of Islamic History & Culture, University of Dhaka.
It is a great honour to be a part of the Department, which bears the rich legacy of Professor A.B.M. Habibullah, S.M. Imamuddin, Muhammad Serajul Islam, Mamtazur Rahman Tarafdar, National Professor Sufia Ahmed, Professor Taj Islam Hashmi and Perween Hasan. With the contributions of them, along with many other talented and dedicated teachers and researchers, the Department of Islamic History & Culture has set a standard of excellence as an institution of teaching and research. The department’s teaching and research encompass a wide spectrum of approaches: political, socio-cultural and economic history, the history of art, architecture and migration, with particular emphasis on the history of Islam as a religion.
Every year we welcome 120 undergraduate students along with numerous others as research students at M.Phil and PhD level. Our graduates shine not only in the research and education sector, they are serving the nation in various other sectors, including but not limited to the administration, banking and many more. With well-equipped modern classrooms, a rich seminar library and the first-ever departmental museum of the university, we offer a wonderful atmosphere of teaching and learning.
I would like to cordially invite all to explore the department further either online or through a visit to the campus.
