The Department of Printing and Publication Studies is one of the few latest disciplines that have been inducted in the academic programme of the University of Dhaka. The department got the endorsement of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on May 12, 2015. The department commenced its formal academic programme from January 2017 with the launch of an 18-month Professional Master's Programme (2016-2017) spanning three semesters (six months each). The Professional Master's programme for first three batches (2016–17) has already been completed. The department has commenced its Honours Programme from 2017–2018 sessions, and the programmes for four honours batches are now going on, where the first two batches have already graduated. Affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences, the department mostly focuses on generating competence for the students in technical knowledge and know-how in the field of printing and publication, keeping in mind the widely stretched big printing and publishing industry of the world, especially Bangladesh. The students have the obligation to complete a six-month-long research or internship programme for their last semester at the honours level. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, an Assistant Professor, has been the Chairman of the department since June 30, 2021.
