The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) is a unique establishment under the auspices of the University of Dhaka. The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) was established in June 1998 with the collaborative support of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), the University of Dhaka and the Department for International Development (DFID), The institute offers undergraduate and post-graduate degrees as well as professional training and research in Health Economics and related areas. IHE is also associated with different innovative activities for better performance of health system, e.g., IHE played the pioneering role in introducing group health insurance for the students of Dhaka University.
The principles of the mainstream economics is not adequately equipped with dealing some typical economic issues including market failure, efficiency and equity of Health Sector. It is a promising branch of Applied Economics, with special emphasis on Health Sector and public policy. The learning of Health Economics will not only equip students to improve their skill required for efficiency in the health sector, the very nature of this skill will be applied to many other sectors including education, public policy, even business!
