In April, 2003, Faculty of Pharmacy got the permission to open the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology as a separate Department, offering specialized post-graduate courses with the objective of providing advanced academic knowledge and practical training to the graduate pharmacists in order to produce competent professionals having necessary skill and proficiency in relevant areas of pharmaceutical sciences. The Department was chaired by Professor A B M Faroque, Professor Dr. Reza-ul Jalil, Professor Dr. Abu Shara Shamsur Rouf, Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza and Professor Dr. Syed Shabbir Haider accordingly. Currently, the Department is chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Elias Al-Mamun. At present, 20-23 students get enrolled in this Department every year after completing their graduation (B. Pharm) from the Department of Pharmacy. After obtaining M. Pharm Degree from this Department, students start their career in different pharmaceutical industries as marketing executive, production executive, supply chain management officer, R&D scientists etc. Students from M. Pharm also join in reputed public and private universities as Faculty members. Most of the thesis students of this Department receive NST (National Science and Technology) fellowship provided by MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) of Bangladesh Government for their remarkable research work in the field of pharmaceutical technology. Apart from pharmaceutical sector, students from this Department have marked their foot prints in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and joined in various Governmental jobs. This Department offers advanced research work in Masters, M. Phil and PhD levels for the students to make them compatible to international standard. A good number of students graduating from this Department go abroad each year for higher studies and represent Bangladesh in the area of pharmaceutical and health sciences. Apart from higher studies, students form this Department is working as professional pharmacists in various countries like Australia, Canada, United States of America, and the Middle East etc. Also, a large number of original research and review articles are published every year by the Faculty members and students of this Department in various scientific peer-reviewed journals of home and abroad.
