Research Interest
| Subject | Description | Research Interest (Goal, Target Indicator) |
|---|---|---|
| Citizen Science for Sustainable Solution of Environmental Crisis | ||
| Heavy metal pollution | Accumulation of heavy metals in different fish species has been recognized as a threath from different research projects. |
| Plastic Pollution | National Geographic Society's Explorer 2019 and team leader (Bangladesh) -Sea to Source: Ganges Expeditions 2019. During the portion of the expedition along the Ganges River in India and Bangladesh, we achieved many scientific objectives in the fields of environmental science, citizen science, community engagement, and conservation technology. |
| Conservation Education | Received training on conservation education by the Wildlife Conservation Society, New York, USA. Designed and implemented active learning based different education programs and materials for threatened species conservation (e.g. Teachers for Planet Earth sponsored by National Geographic Society; Teachers for Tigers sponsored by WCS, USA |
| Ecosystem Engineering | Freshwater mussels (Unionida) are globally endangered but perform crucial ecosystem services. Their status and role in tropical regions are poorly understood, resulting in a nearly complete lack of effort toward their conservation. Understanding mussel functions in developing countries is particularly important because costly interventions to restore habitat functionality are often infeasible. As part of my PhD project, I investigated the role of mussels as 'ecosystem engineer'. |
| Aquatic Ecology | Biological measures were used to assess the aquatic ecosystem health of selected lakes of Bangladesh using 'macroinvertebrates'. Biotic index called 'BLBI' has been developed. |
| Fisheries as source of plastic pollution | Riverine plastic pollution from fisheries has been reported from the Ganges river system. We have been planning to continue research in relevant field. |
