The Faculty of Science at the University of Dhaka embarked upon its historic journey on the 1st of July, 1921 with the three Departments: Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. Later, various disciplines of Physical, Biological, Engineering, and Earth and Environmental Sciences were introduced to the Faculty of Science. Consequently, the Faculty of Biological Science, Faculty of Earth Science, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Engineering and Technology were formed to accommodate the subjects from the respective disciplines. Currently, the Faculty of Science is conducting the academic activities of eight departments in total, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics, Theoretical Physics, Biomedical Physics & Technology, Applied Mathematics, and Theoretical & Computational Chemistry.
