The marine ecosystem, with its vast expanse and rich biodiversity, requires dedicated professionals equipped with the knowledge to ensure its sustainable management. Recognizing this imperative, the International Centre for Ocean Governance, in collaboration with the Department of Oceanography, took another laudable step forward. On 18- 19th June 2017, they organized a two-day intensive training workshop tailored specifically for ten officers of the Forest Department, focusing on the ‗Sustainable Management of Marine Resources'.
The Center for Advanced Research and Sciences (CARS) at the University of Dhaka provided the perfect backdrop for this endeavor, with its state-of-the-art conference room fostering a conducive environment for learning and interaction.
Professor Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal, the esteemed Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, not only inaugurated the program but also played a significant role in the proceedings. His insights and expertise greatly contributed to the workshop's success. Reflecting the importance of the initiative and its inter-departmental relevance, Mr. Md. Zaid Hussain Bhuiyan, Deputy Chief Conservator from the Forest Department, Government of Bangladesh, graced the event as a special guest, sharing valuable experiences and highlighting the intricate relationship between forests and marine ecosystems.
The workshop culminated in an awards ceremony, where participants, having successfully completed the training, were honored with certificates by the Honorable Dean of the faculty. Such acknowledgments not only celebrate their achievement but also underscore the importance of continuous professional development in the realm of marine resources management.
In sum, the workshop marks another feather in the cap of the International Centre for Ocean Governance and the Department of Oceanography. Their commitment to fostering a collaborative environment, where professionals from various departments come together to enhance their skills, is commendable. With such initiatives, the future of marine resource management in Bangladesh looks promising, ensuring that the nation's marine treasures are safeguarded and sustained for generations to come.
