The Delta Study Centre, a centre of excellence for advanced research in the field of Bengal delta, was established within the framework of the department in 1991. The centre is equipped with different research facilities. The centre also provides research grant for the students to undertake MS research in the above mentioned fields.
Objectives of the Center:
The objectives of the center shall be pursued through a variety of activities, such as, research, training, field study, seminars, exhibitions, library, geological information and data service, consultancy and publications.
1. To initiate, promote, sponsor and organize scientific research work on the various dimensions of problems and issues pertaining to delta sedimentation and land reclamation, flood control and navigation, changes in the hydrological conditions of the rivers, neotectonic activity within the region and problems relating to the occurrence and prospects of hydrocarbon and other natural resources within the delta region.
2. To disseminate knowledge acquired through such research.
3. To provide manpower training in the fields of sedimentology and hydrogeology; planning, development and management of water resources of the country; as well as to promote training facilities in search for energy and natural resources in the region.
