The undergraduate students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering recently embarked on a journey into the greeneries of Sreemongol.
On 16th October, 57 students boarded the Parabat Express to visit the Tea Paradise of Bangladesh. After reaching Sreemongol, they visited the Lawachhora National Park, which is one of the largest nature reserves in Bangladesh.
On day two, 12 students made the brave decision to take an excursion to see the Humhum waterfalls. After dangerous a 3 hour's trek, they reached the breathtaking view of the natural waterfall. The rest of the students visited the Noor Jahan Tea Estate. The estate covers an area of around 120 hectares and has more than 50,000 tea bushes. The estate is named after the legendary Mughal queen Noor Jahan, who was known for her love of tea. The aroma of fresh tea leaves and the sight of green tea bushes stretching out as far as the eye can see is truly an amazing experience.
After that, the students visited Camelia Lake, a picturesque lake located at the Shamshernogor Tea Gardens in Kamalganj. The lake is surrounded by green hills and tea gardens. That night, the students visited the Sreemongol city to explore the lifestyle of the locals.
On day three, the students visited the Madhabpur Tea Estate, known primarily for the purple waterlily lake situated within it. The students spoke to the tea garden workers and heard about the injustice that’s been happening to them since the inception of the tea trade in Bangladesh. The workers have not been paid their dues for the last 6 months and their quality of life in the hills is miserable.
The last spot to see was Baikka Beel, which is a part of Hail Haor, The beel has an area of 1000 hectares and is an open water body with emergent vegetation and a fringe of native swamp forest.
After a refreshing change of scenery for three days, the tired travelers boarded a bus at 6 pm in the afternoon on 18th October 2024. This short trip will help the students feel energized for the upcoming academic stress and remain a memorable time spent with peers.
