Welcome to the official website of the University of Dhaka. It is an honor for me to serve as the Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka and I hope that this website provides you with the necessary information that will meet your academic, research, and administrative needs.
Established in 1921, the University of Dhaka has always been an integral part of the history of Bangladesh. In every critical juncture of the nation’s journey, be it the language movement of 1952, the mass uprising of 1969, the liberation war of 1971, the ‘90s anti-authoritarian movement or the recent July uprising of 2024, the University Community played a critical role in shaping the national aspiration and providing an intellectual foundation for nation-building. University of Dhaka, in this sense, is a unique academic institution, as in addition to preparing students for the future, it has always played a significant role in transforming national expectations into reality. It has, therefore, always remained a ‘public university’. The current university administration proudly embraces this public identity and invites new generation scholars to be part of future nation building endeavor. At University of Dhaka, we remain committed to provide cutting-edge academic and research training that would at one end, transform the university as a global intellectual powerhouse and on the other, contribute towards the ongoing nation building efforts.
As the Vice Chancellor, I am aware of the diverse and dynamic spectrum of stakeholders that the university serves including current and prospective students, dedicated faculty members, accomplished researchers, revered members of the senate and the syndicate, esteemed alumni, and our valued international partners. The university administration is committed to engage with this diverse range of stakeholders and with their inputs and support, convert this university into a global center of academic and research excellence. We will devote all our efforts in improving our academic capacities, introducing forward-looking and innovative research tools and techniques, and launching an efficient and effective administrative system.
Our country is currently at the crossroads. The July uprising has created a new set of expectations, and a new window of opportunity has opened up for the university community to translate the nation’s aspiration into reality. Within this context, time has come for us to embrace the new challenging reality. Let us embark together on an expedition of academic excellence, collaboration, and positive transformation.
