The Department of Linguistics at the University of Dhaka hosted an orientation week from 30/09/2024 to 06/10/2024 for the 2023-2024 academic session. The program aimed to provide new students with a comprehensive introduction to their academic journey and campus life, covering topics such as career planning, community engagement, academic guidance, and linguistic opportunities.
1. Orientation Session:
Familiarized students with the department, its offerings, and academic expectations.
2. Strategic Career Planning for Linguistics Graduates
Speaker: Professor Dr. Syed Shahrier Rahman
Focused on long-term career prospects and strategic planning for a successful career in linguistics.
3. Engagement in Extra-Curricular and Community Activities
Speaker: Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashaduzzaman
Encouraged participation in extra-curricular and community activities for holistic development, enhancing academic learning, and personal growth.
4. Journey through the Campus Life: Beyond Academia
Speaker: Mashrur Imtiaz (Assistant Professor & Student Advisor)
Prepared students for life on campus, including managing academics, utilizing campus resources, and balancing personal and academic responsibilities.
5. Understanding the Examination and Grading System
Speaker: Mohammad Inzamam (Lecturer & Course Coordinator)
Introduced students to the department's examination and grading system, providing clarity on evaluation procedures.
6. The Department of Linguistics: The Curriculum and Official Procedures
Speaker: Dr. Monira Begam (Associate Professor & Department Chair)

Concluded the orientation by showcasing various academic and professional opportunities available to linguistics students, offering guidance on potential career paths.
