On November 11, 2024, the Department of Linguistics organized a seminar in which Professor Dr. Sikdar Monowar Morshed (Saurav Sikdar) presented a paper on "The Ethnolinguistic Situation in Bangladesh." Dr. Mashrur Imtiaz participated as a discussant, and the convenor of the seminar was Professor Dr. Syed Shahriar Rahman. The seminar addressed the influence of linguistic and cultural dominance on the languages of Bangladesh's ethnic minorities. Additionally, the seminar explored the linguistic barriers faced by children from these communities in schools due to the absence of mother tongue instruction. The presentation also highlighted Bangladesh's endangered and extinct languages, categorized by factors such as the number of speakers and the nature of language use. Recommendations were made for preserving these vulnerable languages from extinction. (ভাষাবিজ্ঞান বিভাগে ১১ নভেম্বর ২০২৪ তারিখে আয়োজিত সেমিনারে অধ্যাপক ড. সিকদার মনোয়ার মুর্শেদ (সৌরভ সিকদার) ‘বাংলাদেশের নৃ-ভাষাবৈজ্ঞানিক পরিস্থিতি’ বিষয়ে একটি প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন । সেমিনারে আলোচক হিসেবে ছিলেন ড. মাশরুর ইমতিয়াজ এবং সেমিনারের আহ্বায়ক ছিলেন অধ্যাপক ড. সৈয়দ শাহরিয়ার রহমান । সেমিনারে ভাষা ও সাংস্কৃতিক আধিপত্যে বাংলাদেশের ক্ষুদ্র নৃ-গোষ্ঠী ভাষার ওপর প্রভাব আলোচিত হয়। এ ছাড়া শিক্ষা পরিস্থিতিতে মাতৃভাষার ব্যবহার না থাকায় ক্ষুদ্র নৃগোষ্ঠীর শিশুদের বিদ্যালয়ে ভাষিক প্রতিবন্ধকতার বিষয়গুলো এবং একই সাথে ভাষা ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা ও প্রকৃতির সাথে বিভিন্ন প্রভাষক এর ওপর ভিত্তি করে বাংলাদেশের বিপন্ন ও বিলুপ্ত ভাষাসমূহকে তুলে ধরা হয়। সেমিনারে ক্ষুদ্র ভাষাগুলোর সংরক্ষণে বিলুপ্তির হাত থেকে রক্ষা করা বিষয়ে কিছু সুপারিশ উপস্থাপিত হয়।)
