In response to the devastating floods on August 2023, students from the Department of Linguistics came together to assist the flood-affected communities in an inspiring display of unity and compassion. These students organized relief efforts to deliver essential supplies such as food, clean water, clothing, and medicines to the most vulnerable areas. Working alongside local organizations and government bodies, they braved difficult conditions, often wading through floodwaters to reach remote villages and communities that were stranded. Teachers have also played a crucial role in supporting flood-affected people alongside students. Many teachers have led fundraising initiatives, using their networks to gather larger donations and resources for those in need. Additionally, in collaboration with the department, the members of the Dhaka University Alumni Association of Linguistics (DUAAL) also helped by setting up temporary shelters, providing medical assistance, and offering mental health support to those who had lost homes and livelihoods. By volunteering their time and energy, the students of this department exemplified the spirit of solidarity, proving that their commitment to helping their fellow citizens went beyond academics. Their actions significantly alleviated the immediate suffering of the flood victims while also promoting long-term recovery and resilience in these hard-hit communities.
