Department of Linguistics and BRAC IED Launch Free Counseling for Students' Mental Wellbeing
The Department of Linguistics and the BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BRAC IED) have set up pro bono counseling sessions for the students of the department. Psychologists from BRAC IED began facilitating Active Listening Sessions (ALS) in an effort to help students deal with multiple difficulties, including issues affecting mental wellbeing as well as problems with family relationships. Skilled psychologists facilitate the sessions in a structured format to ensure the conversations are constructive, participants get an opportunity to share, the space is non-judgmental, and feedback from participants is encouraged to further enhance the effectiveness of the ALS. With the help of BRAC IED the ALS sessions helped students to promote emotional expression, validation, inner strength identification, coping mechanisms, and self-care, as well as guiding individuals to one-to-one counselling when required. In ALS, empathy and support are practiced; along with that -building resilience, identifying inner strengths, and grounding the mind and body can lead to healing and well-being.
