The Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, successfully organized a two-day Biosafety and Biosecurity Training Workshop on 25 and 26 May 2025. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with BBBS, ICDDR,B, CDC, APHL, and BEP, bringing together institutional expertise to provide a comprehensive biosafety education. This program was specially organized for fourth year BS and MS students to strengthen their theoretical and practical understanding of biosafety and biosecurity protocols in microbiological research and laboratories.
Training overview:
Dr. Asadulghani, MSc, MPhil, PhD Coordinator of Training, BBBS delivered three core sessions focusing on:
Laboratory Hazard and Risk Assessment
Introduction to Biosafety and Biosecurity, including an overview of biosafety levels
Standard Microbiological Practices and Special Laboratory Procedures
Professor Dr. Md Rakibul Islam, MS, PhD General Secretary, BBBS conducted a detailed session on:
Biosafety Cabinet Selection, Installation, Maintenance, and Certification
Partha Sarathi Gope, Biosafety and Biosecurity Specialist led two technical and safety-critical modules on:
Emergency Procedures, Fire and Equipment Safety
Biohazardous Waste Management
Each session was designed to enhance participants' preparation for working in a laboratory environment, ensure compliance with international biosafety standards, and improve emergency response capabilities.
At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants were awarded certificates recognizing their successful completion of the training.
