On 30 April 2026, Dr. Naila Kabeer, Professor Emeritus at the London School of Economics (LSE), delivered the second lecture of the Najma Chowdhury Lecture Series via Zoom, organized as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Women and Gender Studies department. In her lecture, she spoke on her latest book, “Renegotiating Patriarchy: Gender, Agency and the Bangladesh Paradox.”

The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Sabiha Yeasmin Rosy, the department’s Chairperson. Distinguished faculty members from various departments, along with students, alumni, and guests from around the world, participated in the online event.
Professor Dr. Kabeer’s lecture offered a thought-provoking exploration of gender relations, agency, and social transformation within the context of Bangladesh’s development paradox. The presentation was followed by an engaging discussion session, where participants shared reflections and questions, contributing to a rich and meaningful academic exchange.
