We are incredibly proud to announce that our students’ team, Risk Detectives, has secured 1st place in the Eyes on Earth Workshop & Competition organised by Save the Children Bangladesh and icddr,b under the NASA Lifelines Wayfinder Project. The team, led by Faozia Anzum Itu with Md. Saiful Islam and Pritom Bose Aapon showcased an outstanding innovation utilizing Earth Observation technology, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis to advance disaster risk assessment. Their work is a shining example of how young researchers can contribute to tackling climate-related hazards through cutting-edge science.
Dr. Fatima Akter, Chairperson of the Department of Meteorology, University of Dhaka also graced the event as a special guest in strengthening the department’s commitment to foster excellence in meteorological research and innovation. The event brought together students, humanitarian practitioners, and key officials from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), RIMES, German Humanitarian Assistance, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) to exchange knowledge and scopes for localized early warning systems.
