Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen visits Dhaka University姚文大使访问达卡大学

On 14 November 2023, H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador of China to Bangladesh, visited the University of Dhaka and met with Honorable Prof.ASM Maksud Kamal, the new Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University.

Ambassador Yao first congratulated Prof. Kamal on his appointment as the 29th Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, thanked the University for its ongoing interactions with China and looked forward to continuing to deepen cooperation in all aspects during the term of the new Vice Chancellor. He said China-Bangladesh relations enjoy a solid foundation and continue to improve. There are not only mega construction projects between China and Bangladesh, but also people-to-people exchanges and people-to-people bonds, which are equally important and play an irreplaceable role in the development of bilateral relations. Young students are the future of the two countries, and to strengthen exchanges between young people is to cultivate new successors for ever-lasting friendship between China and Bangladesh.

The University of Dhaka has a long history and is a leader in the field of education and academic research in Bangladesh. It is also the only university so far in Bangladesh with a Chinese language department. It has made outstanding contributions in promoting China-Bangladesh educational and cultural cooperation. Ambassador Yao Wen hoped that Vice Chancellor Prof. Kamal would continue to support China-Bangladesh educational and cultural exchanges, strengthen personnel exchanges and joint research, support the development of Confucius Institute and launch the Center for China Studies at Dhaka University at an early date.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Kamal warmly welcomed Ambassador Yao Wen's visit, saying that Ambassador Yao Wen is the first foreign envoy to visit since he was appointed as Vice Chancellor of DU, which fully demonstrated the close relationship between the two countries. Dhaka University attaches great importance to cooperation with China. China's leading advantages in the fields of education and science and technology are worth learning from. Dhaka University will further strengthen all-round cooperation with Chinese universities and research institutions, promote mutual visits and joint research between two sides, support the Confucius Institute at DU, and strive to jointly build the Center for China Studies with Chinese partners.

After the meeting, Ambassador Yao visited the site of Center for China Studies under construction located in Arts Building of DU. He also attended the opening ceremony of the new semester of Confucius Institute at DU and the commendation ceremony for outstanding students, and presented awards to the first prize students. He encouraged the students to learn Chinese well and become ambassadors of China-Bangladesh friendship.

Ambassador Yao also held a discussion with the graduate students of the Institute of International Relations of Yunnan University, who are conducting field research in Bangladesh. He listened to the reports of the students on their research plan and progress, hoping that they will conduct solid research and produce more academic achievements.

Ambassador Yao Wen was accompanied by Cultural Counselor Mr. Yue Liwen and First Secretary Ms.Lang Lang of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh. Dr. Yang Hui, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, Prof. ABM Razaul Karim Faquire, Director of IML and Bangladeshi Director of Confucius Institute, Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, Director, Office of the Internationa Affairs and Prof. Dr. MD.Afzal Hossain, Head of Chinese Language Department, IML, University of Dhaka, attended the relevant activities.

2023年11月14日，中国驻孟加拉国姚文大使访问达卡大学，会见达卡大学新任校长马苏德·卡玛尔教授，双方就加强中孟教育合作与校际交流，设立中国研究中心，推进国际中文教育等话题深入交换意见。

姚文大使首先对卡玛尔校长履新和出任达卡大学第29任校长表示祝贺，感谢达卡大学一直以来与中方的互动交流，并期待在新校长任内继续推进各方面的合作走深走实。他表示中孟关系基础牢固，持续向好。中孟之间不仅仅只有大的工程建设项目，人文交流和民心相通工程同样重要，对双边关系发展起着不可替代的重要作用。青年学生是两国的未来，加强年轻人的交流就是为中孟世代友好培养新的接班人。达卡大学历史悠久，师资力量雄厚，是孟加拉国教育和学术研究领域的领军者，也是孟唯一设有中文系的高校，在推动中孟教育和人文合作方面优势明显，贡献突出。姚大使期望卡玛尔校长继续支持中孟教育和人文交流，加强人员交往和联合研究，支持孔子学院发展，早日启动达卡大学中国研究中心。

卡玛尔校长热烈欢迎姚文大使到访，他表示，姚大使是他新任校长以来的第一位来访的外国使节，充分显示了两国关系的紧密。达卡大学高度重视与中方的合作，中国在教育和科技领域的领先优势值得孟方学习借鉴，达卡大学将进一步加强与中方高校和研究机构的全方位合作，推动双方人员互访与联合研究，支持孔子学院建设，并将努力与上海国际问题研究院共同建设好中国研究中心。
