Professor & Director
Centre for Gender and Development Studies

Welcome to the Centre for Gender and Development Studies at the University of Dhaka, a premier institution dedicated to the advancement of gender equality through academic exercise, evidence-based research, and social advocacy. By fostering an environment of interdisciplinary excellence, we aim to equip the scholars, students and advocates with the analytical tools and evidence necessary to challenge harmful norms and practices, advocate for policy reforms that ensures gender justice across all sectors, recognising women as pivotal architects of the country’s development and catalysts for social change. The Centre also aims to bring together national and international scholars and experts on one platform to bridge local and global knowledge, and to translate international insights into our localised context. Moreover, this centre thrives to create scope for the teachers, researchers and students of University of Dhaka to foster a productive space for shared learning and intergenerational exchange of thoughts and experiences of gendered lives.

Among the key activities of the centre, we host public lecture featuring both national and international experts, alongside dialogues that bring together stakeholders from the academia, government, activist organisations and development sectors. We facilitate both collaborative research, and studies directly funded by the centre itself to produce and disseminate knowledge on the current gender issues. Furthermore, the Centre organises national and international seminars through collaborations and partnerships with different organisations to foster a robust exchange of ideas. Together, through rigorous evidence-based research and collaborative dialogue, we strive to build a more equitable society where dignity and rights are not defined by gender, but are fundamentally guaranteed to all.
