It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, University of Dhaka (IQAC-DU) and be a part of inspiring the office for quality higher education. Indeed, teaching success is the first, minimum, and indispensable requirement for every faculty member of the university. Understanding the undividable need for effective teaching in a quality teaching environment, realizing how a teacher could light the fire that can energize a student’s thirst for knowledge is our priority. This office aims to bring in the best ‘Skill’ and ‘Science’ of teaching to promote best learning environment where blended learning is offered and taught by introducing technology as well as traditional face-to-face classroom teaching. IQAC-DU aims to become the national hub for continuing professional development of academicians working in higher education institutions in Bangladesh by working out opportunities, resources and demand.
This office works in assuring quality (QA) and also to achieve excellence in teaching learning (ETL). QA has a general objective to promote a continuous process of evaluation through self-assessment and monitoring to improve the quality of education, research and governance at the University of Dhaka in order to develop a holistic quality culture; whereas ETL aims to generate knowledge on teaching-learning, recognize development requirements of teachers, staffs and students, organize trainings, both in house and online workshops and develop modules comprising best knowledge fostering an academic and administrative proximate. The target is to enhance individual and institutional proficiency of the teachers within the higher education system of the University of Dhaka (DU) along with Bangladesh.
IQAC-DU has a group of resource persons amongst DU faculties to sustain QA & ETL activities nationwide. The QA assessment process is conducted by receiving opinions from the stakeholders. The students, teachers, office staffs, alumni and the employers in professional entities contribute to the course of action. On the basis of assessment by the participants of each entity, a self-assessment report is prepared by following the guideline of SWOT analysis. These assessments are reviewed to address all loop holes and accommodate suggestions by a three members expert team. The graduate generating entity (Department/Institution) are thus informed about the reflections and propositions for preparing the Post Self-Assessment Improvement Plan (PSAIP) to permeate the drawbacks and advance in quality higher education. The assessment is a continuous process that eventually is being proposed to the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of the University Grants Commission.
The ultimate aim of ETL is to recognize and coordinate need-based training and workshop for teachers, students and support staffs of DU and other universities. Research on the perfection in teaching-learning is based on the participants’ response in the workshops. The improvement of modules on different training workshops and publish newsletters, e-resources is expected to be done through collaboration with different universities and institutions of both home and abroad.
The importance of giving emphasis to individual learners is the main focus of IQAC-DU. Thus. IQAC-DU is interested in learning the demonstrative effect on the implementation of innovations in teaching and learning, active learning, student engagement, learning outcome, student outcomes, and student retention. IQAC-DU guides the supporting workshops for faculty in their use of many forms of technology, from chalk board to on-line presentation.
