The Himalayas, youngest mountain chain formed by the collision of the Indian plate with the Eurasian plate, has piqued the interest of many young minds. Therefore, the Society of Petrolatum Engineers (SPE) Dhaka University Student Chapter, the American Association of Petrolatum Geologists (AAPG) Dhaka University Student Chapter, and the University of Dhaka Geophysical Society (UDGS) Student Chapter have collaborated to bring you a lecture on: THE TECTONIC FOOTPRINT- Tracking Orogenic Origins: Collaborative research in the Himalaya, conducted by Dr. Mary Hubbard.
Dr. Mary Hubbard is a geologist and a professor of Earth Sciences at Montana State University. In 1988, she received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her academic work has focused on the formation of mountain belts around the world. Beginning with dissertation research in Nepal's Himalayas, she went on to study tectonics and structural geology in the Pakistani Himalayas, Europe's Western Alps, New Zealand's Southern Alps, Senegal's Mauritainides, and the Appalachians and Rocky Mountains of North America, among other places. She taught at Kansas State University before becoming department head.
