Ashikur Rahman Shome is an aspiring wildlife ecologist and conservation biologist from Bangladesh, dedicated to advancing wildlife research and biodiversity conservation across wetland, urban, and coastal ecosystems. His research focuses on ecological assessment, wildlife habitat heterogenicity, and conservation strategies, with particular emphasis on wetlands and human-dominated landscapes.
For the first time in Bangladesh, he systematically documented wildlife communities of the Ganges floodplain and oxbow lakes, generating baseline data critical for long-term conservation planning. His work has significantly contributed to understanding avifaunal and faunal diversity in underexplored habitats of the country.
Shome has published peer-reviewed research articles in national and international scientific journals, along with two book chapters with renowned publishers and two authored books on biodiversity and wildlife conservation. Beyond academia, he has written more than 150 popular science articles in newspapers, magazines, books, and newsletters, helping bridge the gap between scientific research and public awareness.
He has introduced 12 newly recorded faunal species for Bangladesh, expanding the documented biodiversity of the country and highlighting the importance of systematic field research. His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards at both national and international levels.
As a representative and focal point of Bangladesh on international platforms, Shome actively participates in global conservation dialogues and collaborates with national and international research organizations. Through rigorous scientific research, public engagement, and policy advocacy, he continues to promote evidence-based conservation and sustainable biodiversity management in Bangladesh.
