Since its inception in 1959, the Department of Information Science and Library Management (formerly Library Science [1959-1987] and Library and Information Science [1987-2002]) of the University of Dhaka has been making remarkable contributions in the advancements of library and information science education and research in Bangladesh.
Thanks to the dedication of the teachers, students, researchers, staff, the University authority and our friends and partners in various sectors, the Department has been able to produce highly competent and qualified information and knowledge professionals, who are serving in national and international organizations with commendable success.
Over the years, the Department has gradually improved its infrastructure, curricula and teaching-learning systems, by attracting the best teachers and best students – contributing to phenomenal progress in library and information science education and research in the country. In addition to providing leadership in the library and information movement in Bangladesh, the Department has also showed its firm commitment to the library and information sector by representing Bangladesh in the world stage.
We provide best educational environment for the students, including smart and modern ICT equipped classroom, computer lab furnished with state-of-the-art technologies and rich seminar library equipped with books and research materials containing the latest advancements in information science and allied disciplines. This has helped our students excel in education, while our rich and vibrant co-curricular activities have helped them develop their personality and boost their creative talent.
We are always on the lookout for enhanced collaboration with national and international institutions, other universities and learning organizations to extend our reach and exposure through exchange programs, collaborative activities and research projects.
