| Ph.D. Course | During my Ph.D. research, I worked on various experimental animal models of an autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis (RA) such as adjuvant arthritis (AA), oil-induced arthritis (OIA) and pristine induced arthritis (PIA) in different strains of rats and mice to elucidate the immune-pathological mechanisms in the initiation and propagation of the diseases as well as to develop novel strategies to treat the autoimmune diseases. Work included breeding of experimental animals, oral and parenteral (i.p., i.d., s.c., and i.v) administration of various antigens in the animals, transfer of lymph node cells and serum in the animals, culture of lymphocytes, cloning of T cells, ELISA for detection of certain antibodies in rat serum as well as in cell-culture supernatant and RT-PCR to study the expression of mRNA for various cytokines in lymphoid tissues of the rats. |
