The MRET is a full time program and has been designed for regular students only. Thus the professionals are required to give a clearance certificate from respective organization before admission. Student having a BSc/BSc (Hons)/BSc Engineering degree from any reputed university with a minimum CGPA 2.50 out of 4.00 can apply for the admission test. As the programs are interdisciplinary in nature, students from different backgrounds like Electrical Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering / Mechanical Engineering/Civil Engineering/Textile Engineering/Architecture/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Bio science etc. are encouraged to apply.
Credit Distribution: |
MRET program includes teaching theory courses, conducting laboratory and research works, field visit, viva voce, writing a thesis/project paper and taking part in comprehensive exams spanning over one and a half academic years. A successful candidate for the Masters Degree program must complete 45 credits in three consecutive semesters taking 15 credit /semester. The detail credit distributions will be as follows:

Admission regulation
A student fulfilling the requirements described in section 1.0 may seat for the admission test. Any student who fulfills the admission requirements set by the Academic Committee; Institute of Energy of Dhaka University may be admitted to the MRET program.
Courses of Study
A course will be represented by course number, course title, credit hours and contact hours per week. Each course number is headed by MRET followed by a three-digit number. The first digit will correspond to the semester number and the last digit will be used for the institute to identify the serial number of the course. The following example illustrates a course representation:
Course Number |
Course Title |
Credit Hours |
Contact Hours per Week |
MRET-101 |
Foundation of Energy Engineering |
3.0 |
3.0 |
Here, “MRET” represents a course for Masters in Renewable Energy Technology, digit “1” indicates first semester and “01” is the course number.
Courses will be designed in terms of credit hours. Three Credit will be three contact hours/week.
In addition to the theory courses, students must conduct a 4 credit thesis/project work as a compulsory part of the degree requirement. At the beginning of the Second Semester students must submit a research proposal and choose a supervisor to work with. Maximum two students can work in a thesis/ project group. The students will get two semesters to complete their thesis/ project work and at the end of the Third Semester, they have to submit a dissertation and present the outcomes.
The Third Semester Examination Committee will fix a date(s) for the submission of research thesis/project report. Upon receiving the research thesis/project report, the exam. committee will set examiners for the dissertation. The exam. Committee will set a date for the oral presentation where the students have to present their research work in front of the exam. committee. Full marks for the presentation is 40 and the full marks for the dissertation is 60. Dissertation will be examined by two examiners as per Dhaka University rules.
Each three credit course will be assessed in 100 Marks. The mark distribution will be as follows:
Attendance : 5%
In course : 25%
Assignment : 10%
Final Exam : 60%
3.10 Semester Final Examination
3.11 Grading System
The total numerical marks obtained by a student in each course will be converted into letter grades. There shall be 10 letter grades that may be assigned to evaluate course-performances and other works. The letter conversion points and grade points will be as follows:

Calculation of GPA
Grade Point Average (GPA) is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the courses passed by a student. For example, if a student passes four courses in a semester having credits of C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and his/her grade points in these courses are G1, G2, G3, G4 and G5 respectively then,
åCiGi
GPA= --------------- where i=1 to 5
åCi
Students obtaining a GPA = 2.0 in the first semester will be promoted to second semester. Students obtaining CGPA = 2.5 in the first and second semester will be promoted to the third semester. Students having grade point 2 or above in every subject assigned for the degree (from first semester to third semester) will be awarded the Masters degree.
If a student has “F” grade in any course he/she will sit for an improvement exam in that course with the succeeding batch. But every student must complete their degree within 3 years from his/her admission.
Student who will fail to clear all “F” grades will be treated as “irregular student” and for them the coordination committee will take decision whether they will be given more time or not but for regular Masters program (MRET), Faculty of Engineering and Technology’s guidelines will be followed. Students will not get more than “B+” (=3.25) in improvement examination in any semester (as per Dhaka University rules).
Class Attendance
Students having 75% (average of all courses) or above attendance will be eligible for the exam. Students with 60% to <75% will be eligible for the examination with fine. If any student has less than 60% he will not allowed to sit for the examination and may give exam with next corresponding semester.
Degree to be awarded
A student securing a minimum CGPA of 2.00 after the third semester and obtaining “D” grade or higher in all the courses in three semesters will be awarded the MRET degree.
Year of Degree Awarded
The result of a candidate for a three-semester Master in Institute degree will be published in the year in which he/she fulfills the requirements for the degree.
